TestimonialsHelen Milhench - London
I went to Sam very frustrated after lots of failed dieting and weight ballooning out of control. I had no energy, couldn't sleep yet couldn't get up in the morning and was stressed by the juggling of a job and home life with two small children. I was recommended to talk to Sam by a fellow mother at school and I have been amazed by the transformation that Sam has helped me with. Whilst I am not exactly a model client, still having a liking for icecream!, she has given me the tools to a better relationship with food which has in turn helped re-energise me, I sleep better and I cope better with life in general. As she keeps telling me, it isn’t about dieting, it is about thinking about what I'm putting into my body, and understanding what my body is telling me. Sam herself is calm, measured, firm yet understanding and full of ideas and tips to help you get yourself back on track. I couldn't recommend her highly enough.

It is a pleasure to write this testimonial for Sam Bourne.
I first saw Sam in January this year when I had received some alarming
repeated blood test results showing that my SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT) liver
enzymes and my cholesterol levels
were elevated and had not come down despite being careful with what I ate
and drank. She took an extensive case history covering subjects such as
my diet, lifestyle, work and medical history and assessed that my gut and
liver had suffered some damage from a combination of not managing my diet
properly and stress. She recommended a change in food and lifestyle which
included: removing alcohol, coffee, wheat, gluten, processed foods, red meat and
other high cholesterol foods from my diet and replacing these with
wholesome foods such as buckwheat, spelt, organic teas, bio flavonoids,
Omega 3s. vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, calcium, acidophilus and herbal
liver support supplements in order to allow my gut and liver to heal and be
able to process food and toxins properly. She also recommended meditation to
help me with stress relief.
I stuck to the regimen and saw an improvement in my energy levels and also
started to feel a lot "better" after a couple of weeks. Sam has been great
in monitoring my progress and providing me with encouragement.
I had another blood test in March this year.
I was pleased to see that my liver enzymes had returned to within
normal parameters and my cholesterol levels had reduced slightly.
I was really relieved as I thought I was down a slippery slope with
liver damage and thanks to Sam I have now put a stop to this.
While I am not quite there with my cholesterol levels, I am confident that if I
continue with Sam's regime this will be resolved.
Sam is a highly competent practitioner in naturopathic nutrition and also
has a caring and concerned nature. I would recommend her to anyone who has
issues in this area.

I first met Sam in September 2007, we met in the social environment of the school playground.
It was just after the summer holidays and most people were relaxed and happy. I was not.
Even though Sam did not know me well she could tell that I was suffering and after a week
in she comforted me and suggested we meet to discuss what was happening to me.
Sam was very sympathetic, approachable and easy to talk to.
I was really able to open up to her in complete confidence.
A brief summary of my symptoms. I was quiet depressed/sad, exhausted, had gained a
lot of weight in a short space of time and I had a temperature
and “cold type” symptoms that were very persistent.
Sam helped me to review my diet, my medical and emotional history and the
currant state of affairs. Sam does this in a compassionate, non judgemental way.
She is firm but caring and gave me a sense of belief that under her care things WILL get better.
I have followed Sam’s recommendations which have included Nutritional Therapy,
seeing a private G.P., cranial sacral work, Yoga, more exercise and more recently a hair mineral sample.
I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease and I have no doubt that had I not
been under Sam’s care I would have deteriorated much more quickly.
I hugely appreciate the help and guidance that Sam has given me
and I hope to remain in her care.

If you want to find a way to balance the demands of a hectic life style
whilst trying to push your body to the limits, I would start with Sam from FoodSpa.
I am one of those people who try to do about a hundred different things at the same time,
train for an Ironman, spend time with the kids, and keep up with a pretty demanding work schedule.
Doing this consistently requires that you understand how to keep your body healthy,
and I could see that I was starting to suffer.
I went to Sam for some support, advice and a plan.
That’s exactly what I got, she helped me put a practical, effective and simple plan together.
I have really noticed the difference, she’s brilliant. Now I can do even more!
Richard Barnes, 31, South London:I really enjoyed the FoodSpa 28 day Detox program. I felt great for the duration. I was sharper and more alert at work. No peaks or troughs in energy... Just a constant level. I slept incredibly well every night (some VERY intense dreams though!).
I'm not going to lie, we actively avoided major social events in the evening as it was tough being stone cold sober at 12am when everyone else was partying.
One key point to include for others is the money you save. Hundreds of pounds over the month and that makes you feel even better!
Also, detoxing during the summer months means we were able to get up early (6am) and do some exercise before work... No chance of this happening in miserable January.
I think the most important thing is that it's taught me new (good) habits to carry on beyond the detox period.
We finished late May, but since then, we've kept our alcohol consumption down and don't touch the stuff from Sunday - Friday, to ensure we stay sharp in work . Also, I'm avoiding wheat much more. No bread unless necessary (or a treat) and I've increased my intake of brown rice and vegetables considerably. Have fallen in love with Nairns Oatcakes.
I'll definitely do the detox again (ideally twice a year).
Thanks again. I was skeptical, but the benefits were fantastic.
Diagnostic TestsLaboratory Tests can help determine the causes of many health conditions. This knowledge enables a Nutritional Therapist to use nutrient therapy to target areas of health more accurately. These are examples of the many tests available:
- A FACTest (Food Allergen Cellular Test) - tests for IgG antibodies and can determine if you have a true food sensitivity, which could be the cause of a long term health condition. Approx. 170 foods are tested. Other more specific tests are available for allergy testing too.
- A CDSA 2.0 +P (Comprehensive Stool Analysis + parasitology) is extremely thorough in detecting any parasites or digestive problems.
- Antibody profile tests – these tests are for Candida, Gluten sensitivity,
- Anaemia profile – tests for iron, folic acid and B12 and ferritin – all implicated if there is insufficient haemoglobin in the blood
- Hair mineral Analysis – tests for toxic heavy metals and mineral trace elements.
- Vitamin and Mineral Profile – tests for deficiencies which can have a direct effect on health.
- ONE test – Optimal Nutrition Evaluation – this test for levels of nutrients in the body including – all vitamins, minerals, amino acids (proteins),
- anti-oxidants, organic markers of metabolic function, detoxification and gut flora. This test enable accurate nutrient therapy.
- Chronic Fatigue Screening – test consists of Metabolic analysis profile and Adrenal Stress Index –tests for excessive cortisol, energy production, neurotransmitter breakdown and intestinal microbial activity.
- Homocysteine – Elevated homocysteine is implicated in many clinical conditions – it is a good indicator of cardiovascular risk.
- Cardiovascular Risk Assessment – Total Cholesterol and cholesterol variants, C-Reactive Protein, Fibrinogen, Glucose and homocysteine.
- Female hormone panel – tests for imbalances in hormone production which can cause many health symptoms: excessive bleeding, low libido, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and infertility to name a few.
- Total Thyroid Screen – assesses thyroid function, TSH, T4, Free T4, T3, reverse T3 and auto-antibodies. If a test result from a general thyroid test has come back low but within normal range – it is worth doing a full screen to see if there are any problems that are not being detected.
- Further hormone profile test - including male hormone panels. Also many other digestive tests including Gut permeability, Lactose intolerance, Helicobacter Pylori Test and Functional Blood chemistry
