Roberta Hutchins has a first class honours degree in Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) and has been working in the field of Herbal Medicine since 1997. In addition to private practice in Exeter and Bovey Tracey, Roberta works for several herbal medicine organisations and is UK co-ordinator and editor for Plant Medicine CIC, developing a database to integrate traditional uses and scientific evidence on herbal medicines. While Herbal Medicine can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions in all ages, Roberta has a particular interest in treating stress-related conditions and chronic fatigue. I draw clients from all over Devon including Tiverton, Newton Abbott, Exmouth, and Sidmouth.

Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy)

Herbal Medicine is the oldest and most universal system of medicine known, currently relied on by 80% of the world's population.  Around a quarter of all pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by doctors today originated from plants!  Herbal medicines have been used for centuries and modern research now increasingly supports their efficacy and safety.

Herbalists use extracts of part(s) of a whole plant to treat a wide range of short and long-term health problems (from coughs to chronic fatigue) in all ages (from babies and pregnant women to the elderly).  

The focus is always on the underlying causes of ill health in the individual.

The term phytotherapy is derived from the Greek 'phyto' meaning 'plant'.  Phytotherapists are dedicated herbal practitioners with specialist university training in herbal medicine.  They combine orthodox medical knowledge and skills with scientific understanding of plant medicines. They are qualified to work safely with medicines from your Doctor.
