There are certain life events that can throw the most balanced person out of their depth.

People can find themselves overwhelmed with sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, shame, frustration and fear, to cite just a few emotions.  Sometimes these emotions can leave people with no sense of meaning in their lives.

These are the moments when people come to therapy.

About Regina King.

I trained at Regent's College School of Psychotherapy and Counselling and my Master degree is from City University.  My training was in existential psychotherapy but I also hold a certificate in CBT.  I belong to the International Society for Philosophers as I have a particular interest in philosophy and I am currently studying the 'Philosophy of Mind'  and 'Searching for the Soul'.

I am particularly interested in the analysis and interpretation of dreams which was the theme of my dissertation and I continue researching as I believe that dreams can be meaningfull to our waking lives.

I worked for the NHS, Mental Helath Dept. in Basildon where I attended weekly workshops regarding mental disturbances.  I also worked for the Terrence Higgins Trust with person's diagnosed HIV positive and I had the opportunity to work with different cultures and gender issues.

I do not force any theory or technique in my work.  I seriously believe in the encounter between human beings and its relationship and I base my work on it.

What can it help?

As human beings we are thrown in the world.  We can not choose where to be born, we can not choose our parents or family, we can not choose to be born as male or female, we can not choose our race or colour, and we can not choose that we are going to live forever.  These are the givens of existence.  There are times that not only these givens of existence which no one can escape from and the events that occur during our life time can be overwelming.  All depends in how we respond to them.  They can provoke anxiety, guilt, sadness, fear, shame, to cite just a few emotions and sometimes these emotions can be so unbearable to live can be a difficult task.  Existential psychotherapy can help us to clarify and look at possibilities and options that may be available in order to improve our quality of life.  The choice always belongs to the person.  Exploring a person's rigid values, beliefs and biases can clarify a person's world-view and enable the person to find out in how they might be contrbuiting or not for their quality of life.
