What is Integrative Arts Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy
Like counselling, psychotherapy can help with emotional, behavioural and relationship issues that are causing you stress and discomfort. However over time it will help you gain insight into the root of those problems and guide you towards a freer, happier and more fulfilling life.
Arts
Through the arts you can access the truth of your unconscious… Discover the root of your own emotional blocks, problems and unhelpful relationship patterns … And work towards fulfilling a happier potential.
The arts – painting, drawing, imagery, sandtray, claywork, bodywork, movement, creative writing, drama – can help us express what is going on for us and give us a new way to see and express our inner thoughts and feelings. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT – WE ALL HAVE POWERS OF CREATIVITY. The important power of the work is that you will understand you. The psychotherapist is there to help you on this path of understanding.
Integrative
This form of psychotherapy uses a range of theories and artforms, and creates a new mixture of both appropriate for each individual client.
Therapeutic Sessions
Therapy normally takes place during weekly 50 minute sessions.
The number of sessions depends on the nature of the work the client wishes to pursue.
A course of psychotherapy begins with an assessment session.
After this, if the client and therapist feel they can form a good therapy team then - Either: They can contract to work for around six weeks on a single specific issue Or: They can contract to work for a more general six week contract of work that, if the relationship between therapist and client is working well, can continue with regular progress reviews.
Integrative Arts Psychotherapy is for the client. The therapist is there to support the client without judgement and in confidentiality.
About Me
I am a trained and qualified Integrative Arts Psychotherapist. I trained at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) in London, and I abide by their code of ethics.
I have a diploma and MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy. This required four years of training, personal psychotherapy and regular supervision as a practising trainee therapist.
IATE comes under the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP) of which I am a member.
As a qualified and practising psychotherapist I undertake regular supervision to ensure the quality, integrity and relevance of my work.
I work on a freelance basis and I see clients at my private practice in Wickham, Hampshire, and West London. I am experienced working with adults and children, in private practice, health and social agencies, and in schools. I am also available for work in the educational, legal and corporate fields.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
