WELCOME
Welcome to Zest Osteopathic Healthcare. My home–based clinic was established in
March 2009 after I returned from maternity leave. At my practice I aim to offer
a relaxed and friendly approach to Osteopathy and Massage whilst maintaining
the highest standards of service.
I was born and educated in Zimbabwe. I qualified as a massage therapist in
2000, and then worked on board luxury cruise liners for 2 ½ years.
In 2002, I was first introduced to Osteopathy after suffering with repetitive
strain injury in my wrists. After just a few treatments, the pain had subsided
and I was sold on the principles of Osteopathy. As a result, I decided to
pursue the profession myself, and attended the British College of Osteopathic
Medicine (BCOM) in London. I graduated in 2007 with a First Class Honours
Degree in Osteopathic Medicine and a diploma in Naturopathy (N.D).
I’ve always been a keen sportswoman and therefore my first interest was in
sporting injuries and rehabilitation, but after having my own child in 2008, I
have now also taken an interest in treating pregnant and post-natal woman. I am
now able to offer Cranial Osteopathy as a treatment and this allows for
treatment of babies and children.
I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council and I am a member of the
British Osteopathic Association. I am also First Aid qualified.
WHAT KIND OF APPROACH DO I TAKE?
Osteopathy recognises the importance of the link between the structure of the
human body and the way it functions. Therefore, I will focus on your body’s
skeleton and joint function along with your underlying muscles, soft tissue and
internal organs.
I consider each new patient to be an individual and therefore each treatment
will be unique to you. On the first treatment, an in-depth consultation will be
carried out so that I can take into account the various factors, e.g. social,
emotional, psychological and physical, that can contribute to your problem.
After performing a movement and postural analysis, I will use a highly
developed sense of touch, known as palpation, to identify problem areas in your
body.
I work using a variety of different techniques, which range from gentle tissue
stretching and joint mobilisations, to the stronger joint manipulations. I also
practice using cranial osteopathy which is an indirect and gentle treatment.
Cranial Osteopathy is particularly useful in treating acute conditions,
pregnant and post-natal women, and babies and children.
Throughout
your treatment I will always consult you and discuss what is going on. My
main goal is to educate you towards long-term health and vitality, and so I
will give advice on self-help treatments such as hydrotherapy, exercise,
dietary and other lifestyle changes.
