What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a natural, holistic approach to health care which draws upon the principles and techniques of eastern and western medicine. It integrates chiropractic, from which it was first developed, medical kinesiology and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The basic tool of kinesiology is muscle monitoring, and this is used to obtain holistic information on body function and to evaluate which areas may be out of balance, or impeded in some way. It can then be used to determine the most effective treatment and means of restoring harmony to the system.
What's the aim?
- To restore equilibrium in the body, mind and spirit
- To enhance the free and fluid flow of energy
- To create and sustain vibrant health and wellbeing
How can Kinesiology achieve this?
Through helping to:
- Increase energy, vitality and effective functioning on all levels
- Decrease stress, tension and energy depletion
which, in turn...
- Facilitates self-healing
- Helps to strengthen the body, increase resistance to stress and prevent illness
- Furthers self-awareness, insight and the real-isation of your highest potential
Consultation
A kinesiology consultation will start with a discussion about your health and the particular issues you'd like to focus on. A health and lifstyle history is taken if this is your first appointment. You will then be introduced to the concept of muscle monitoring.
Monitoring
An arm, leg or even finger muscle is often used for general monitoring purposes, but this can vary according to individual circumstances. You can sit or lie down and you remain fully clothed at all times. The monitoring procedure is explained and demonstrated so that you can experience what it feels like to have a muscle which 'locks' in place effortlessly and one which 'unlocks' or switches off when indicating an imbalance. You will notice that this has nothing to do with strength, but a certain quality of response.
Surrogate testing is used for young babies, children, animals or others who, for some reason, cannot be directly worked with themselves.
Focus
A focus for the session is agreed upon. This can be anything from working with backpain or headaches to work related stress or emotional issues. You may also want to work towards a specific personal goal or improve some aspect of your life or lifestyle in some way. The session will always be tailored to your individual needs.
Co-Creativity
During the sessions, we will work together to explore, understand and create a new, improved level of being. The process is gentle, sensitive and without judgement, respectful of every individual as a unique and whole person.
At the same time, each session is guided through the kinesiology responses, so you can be sure that the balancing process proceeds at a rate and in the direction which is completely in tune with you.
Biofeedback is used to:
- identify what stress factors are contributing to your symptoms
- identify where the stresses are being held in the body
- bring insight to why this may be happening
- determine the most effective treatment to restore balance
