Karen Merritt Shiatsu and Thai Massage Cambridge

I have been practicing Shiatsu since 2003 and run my practice from my home in central Cambridge. I have also, more recently, qualified in the Wat Po style of Thai Massage in Thailand and have regular clients coming to me for this too. I regularly practice Iyengar and Sivananda yoga and meditation. Situated in Cambridge, I typically draw my clients from the surrounding areas of Haverhill, Peterborough and Bedford.

About my therapy

Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese healing art.  The word Shiatsu means “finger pressure” - a treatment incorporating gentle manipulations, stretches and pressure using fingers, thumbs, palms and feet to various points on the body.  It is based on the same underlying philosophy and principles as acupuncture.

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience which can help in a wide range of conditions from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health.  Regular Shiatsu can help to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives and therefore, the potential for the disease to manifest.

As well as those listed under 'Conditions treated', Shiatsu can be effective in preparing the body for conception in pregnancy, to continue to treat the pregnant mother throughout her pregnancy and during delivery of the baby.

Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of working with clients who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis and continue to treat them weekly in some cases.  Benefits they report include improvement in circulation; increased energy; emotional uplift and short term increased mobility and flexibility of limbs.

Shiatsu is practiced fully clothed and it is advisable to wear loose, comfortable leggings or trousers and socks for the treatment.

My prices and treatment hours

My charge is £35 for a 1-hour treatment.  I charge the same for the initial treatment and consultation which last approx 1.5 hours.
I offer an introductory package of 3 treatments at £30 each, paid in advance, to be used over 3 months.
I work Monday to Friday from 9am until 9pm and Saturday mornings.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation I will ask you about your previous medical history and your life style so that I can build a holistic picture of you to help form the basis of a diagnosis for treatment.  So please bring with you a list of any medication you may be taking.

I advise you to refrain from eating 2 hours before coming for your treatment.  Also avoid alcohol and caffeine the same day as Shiatsu helps to detox the body and alcohol and caffeine are stimulants which will prevent this from happening effectively and could make you feel drowsy or nauseous after.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
