Clinical Experience in Counselling, PsychotherapyMy psychotherapy service is strictly confidential and I follow a strict professional code of conduct, good practice and an ethical framework of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). Besides my private therapy practices in Cavendish Square, Harley Street and Lancaster Gate, I have provided short term counselling services at 'Mind' and have worked with a wide range of clients with complex needs in a variety of settings including a multicultural centre for the homeless, rough sleepers, substance misusers and people with severe trauma.
How I WorkI am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor offering a therapy service tailored to individual need which often results in improved emotional well-being.
Most psychotherapists specialize in one theoretical approach. I strongly believe that one size does not fit all as each person is unique. Recognising that each person is unique, I chose to train as an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor tailoring my service to individual need rather than simply specializing in one theoretical approach.
Integrative Psychotherapy means that I attend to the whole person, their perceptions, thoughts, feelings and physical experience working as a whole. It also means that I move flexibly among a range of approaches such as humanistic, psychodynamic, body psychotherapy and neuroscience, depending on your individual needs and personality.
My sessions involve you and I meeting, talking and listening together with the mutual purpose of paying careful attention to your life and how you experience it.
Therapy is a shared process so I think it is important for me to honour your privacy and personal independence and for me to create a non-judgmental nurturing environment so that you feel comfortable enough to talk about issues that are bothering you. My role is to facilitate your work in ways that respect your values, personal resources and capacity for choice within your cultural and spiritual context and recognize how they can sometimes be at odds with your actions or how you feel day to day.
Clinical Training in Counselling, PsychotherapyI hold an Advanced Diploma and Master's Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling which is a professionally UKCP accredited five year training.
I am committed to continuously looking at how I can increase, deepen and expand my skills and knowledge. This includes regularly attending professional training workshops, conferences and seminars.
Additional Information from Karen DeemingMy corporate experience includes senior management and policy positions with specialisms in the following areas: diversity, coaching, mentoring, social inclusion and health work and well-being. This has helped me to understand how difficult it is to achieve a balance between home and family life and personal ambition.
