Julia Moore Yoga Crouch End, Greater London
Julia Moore My areas of speciality include therapeutic and restorative yoga classes, yoga and meditation; private classes; yoga for runners and athletes; yoga for stress and stress related conditions; yoga for people with chronic stiffness, pain and/or fatigue; chair yoga for those with difficulties with mobility. I also help people to take charge of their health by using foundational principles of the CHEK Holistic lifestyle programme. The myriad benefits of this programme include better energy, concentration, sleep quality, digestion; and an increased ability to manage stress, weight and mood.
Yoga is practiced in loose / stretchy clothing (leggings, close fitting tracksuit bottoms or shorts are ideal). Unless you have a good reason not to be, it is best to practice barefoot. You need not have a mat but you may wish to purchase one if you take a regular class. Ideally have a light snack one to one and a half hours before you start your lesson. First time students will be asked a number of health related questions; then guided through a one hour series of yoga postures; breath awareness practices and deep relaxation. The class is tailored to the individual’s constitution, interests, and lifestyle according to structural and Ayurvedic principles. Students gain the most benefit by continued and regular practice, a weekly class is ideal, fortnightly is possible if using home practice guidelines.
My original training was based on yoga therapy principles of body reading and developing the skill to intuitively encourage a deep release of muscular tension in the body using yoga postures and breath awareness. I’m particularly interested in strengthening the generally weaker postural muscles (generally inner body muscles) in conjunction with releasing excess tension in phasic muscles (generally outer body muscles). Believe it or not, some people can be too bendy! This can lead to knee, lower back and other problems. Generally classes are fun, informative, inspiring, rejuvenating and deeply relaxing.
Holistic Lifestyle Coaching is a method of transitioning to a healthier way of life which looks at the whole picture – not just dietary change. Although diet is important (and many people are eating a whole lot of stuff they know is not good for them) it is not the whole answer. Looking at a person holistically means looking at the mental and emotional aspects of their being as well as the physical. Stress and negative self talk can play a huge part in sabotaging even the best of intentions, so we look at these issues alongside giving information, guidance and support to follow an individualised way of eating, based on metabolic typing.
I’ve been practicing yoga for well over 20 years and teaching since 2003. I also manage a complementary health clinic and have been a health advisor at the Haelan Clinic for around 12 years. As well as teaching yoga, I coach people in the transition to a healthier way of life using the CHEK Holistic Lifestyle principles.

Testmonial “"I have attended Julia's classes and had private lessons for 4 years now and her enthusiasm and love of yoga is inspiring. She observes so much, while also giving gentle, clear instructions. She is never critical, always encouraging. Julia opened up a new world for me in her classes, far beyond the yoga postures. She is interested in every aspect of keeping the body in harmony with mind." J. House
