GMC Therapy Services George McCulloch Counsellor, London
What to Expect
After initial contact an appointment will be made where I can make an assessment of your current problems and a decision made whether we could work together to resolve the problem or condition, this would be made jointly this session usually take 1 hour. A plan for treatment would be made and a rough time-span given for therapy. If the problem requires long term work then this would be discussed and an agreement reached. I don’t believe that a problem can be resolved unless a person can fully understand the ramifications and consequences of the said problem in their life. So the counselling/therapy sessions will involve lectures and discussions and exploration of the impact and consequences of the problem and how to resolve or come to terms with it. In some cases homework will be given or books recommended.
About Counselling and Therapy
Counselling can be described as the art of listening and can be understood as being similar to having a really deep conversation with a friend or close relative, but free of the emotional or judgemental threats inherent in talking to a person you know. We addiction therapists regard therapy as incorporating the principles of counselling but going further in that it has a strong directive element and also embraces education. Many who suffer from depression, stress or alcohol related illness find this approach intuitive and helpful as they often feel they are benefiting not just from having someone to listen to them, but from that person's expertise and guidance as well.

About Me
In 1994 I undertook training with the Priory Hospitals Group on their first training course for Addiction Therapists. This diploma course was 13 months full time training. I qualified in February 1995. Since that time I was employed by the Priory Hospitals Group advancing, in 1998, to Senior Addictions Therapist. Leaving in 2007 to concentrate on my private practice. I have many years of experience, since 1995 I have worked in private healthcare with the Priory Hospitals Group. From 1998 to 2007 I was the senior addictions therapist in charge of therapy and supervision of one of their units.
I have continued to develop and improve my therapeutic skills through further training and hold qualifications in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and Stress Management as well as Supervision. I am a member of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals and hold their gold standard National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate. I am also a UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor which is administered by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
My range of skills include Group therapy, 1-1 Therapy, Reality Therapy, Transactional Analysis, 12 Step Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Stress Counselling, Grief Counselling, Life skills and Family Therapy. These skills can be used at certain times throughout treatment to help the patient/client come to terms with the ramifications and consequences of having an alcohol problem or living with an alcohol problem.
For others seeking therapy, these skills can be used in addressing life problems such as stress management, self esteem issues, anger management, relationships, over-eating, grieving, anxiety and cognitive and behavioural difficulties.
