I am a Counellor and Psychotherapist located in Cheadle. I typically see my clients from the surrounding areas of Altrincham, Bramhall, Marple, Stockport and within easy reach of Manchester City Centre.
AREA OF SPECIALITY Coming for counselling for the first time can, for many, be a difficult step to take. I understand this as I remember how I felt in my first sessions which I had to attend as part of my training. However, I can now look back and appreciate the difference it has made to me. That was 10 years ago. I have spent these past 10 years studying and training in order to be able to offer counselling to you. I work with adults on a one to one basis addressing a range of issues and with couple who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
MY THERAPY I base my practice on the theory of Transactional Analysis. This is a theory of personality providing a means for growth and change. It helps us to understand ourselves and why we say and do certain things. I have enclosed more information on this theory further on. Over the past few years I have helped lots of different people, including people presenting the following issues:
Abuse (sexual, mental or physical)
Anxiety and panic
Depression and low mood
Divorce and separation
Eating or food-use disorders
Guilt about past behaviour
Self-esteem and self-confidence
WHAT TO EXPECT You will be able to talk to me in confidence. I am empathic and non judgemental with a good understanding of how difficult life can be. As we get to know each other we will be able to explore your difficulties, uncover some of the reasons why these happen and find ways of making changes in your life
ABOUT ME Before working time as a counsellor I was a teacher. My career as a teacher spanned 30 years when I worked with youngsters who had difficulties in school: children with learning difficulties, low self esteem, bullying, school refusers, school exclusion. I taught the principals of counselling theory to groups of children in order to give them more skills in coping with difficult situations. I bring all this experience into my practice when working with adults as many current difficulties arise from problems experienced in childhood. I work voluntarily, one day a week as a school counsellor with an agency in a Manchester school.
As we go along I explain the theory of what is happening so you can work things out for yourself. I believe it gives you the means to cope independently. To quote, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” Jay Leno (1950 - )

TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS Try the following for yourself.
The basis of TA is the three Ego States:- PARENT, ADULT, CHILD
We move through these Ego States many times during the day. Check and note as you move through them.
Ask yourself, “What am I doing now? Which Ego State am I in? What message am I responding to? Is it an outdated message? Is this why I am, for example, working too hard OR not showing myself at my best OR feeling I don’t belong OR…………..
This is just the start!
