Diane Gregory Bowen Technique Practitioner Holcot Northampton
About Me I worked as a nurse for many years before retiring in 2003 to concentrate on complementary therapies and natural health care which I had become very interested in over the last 15 years or so. Apart from training in my therapies of which The Bowen Technique has become my most popular and effective therapy I have also studied many aspects of natural health care including nutrition, weight problems, allergies and toxic reactions which are now frequently causing problems. In my clinic I now see people with many different ailments but very often The Bowen Technique can trigger the body's own healing response and improvement is experienced within a day or two. It is very rewarding to see such beneficial changes usually within a very short period. If you have any queries or would like to book a treatment please call or email me.
About The Bowen Technique The Bowen technique was developed by Australian Tom Bowen (1903-1982) after his return from serving in World War 2, a remarkable gentleman with no previous medical or therapy training, he simply called his work a gift from God. Mr Bowen allowed few people to work with him but Mr Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine studied and documented his work and after Mr Bowen's death started teaching the technique, first coming to the UK in 1993 and now being taught almost world-wide.
The Bowen Technique is a gentle, subtle, non-intrusive and relaxing therapy focusing on creating harmony and balance within the body. At your first visit I like to take a full personal history from you, this helps me to plan your treatment although a specific diagnosis is not essential as the Bowen therapy works deeply and will initiate your body's own healing ability.
Using fingers or thumbs only I make a series of very gentle precise rolling type moves over specific muscles, ligaments and connective tissues. There is no forced manipulation. The Bowen work stimulates the body to realign itself.
I can work over light clothing although it is preferable to work directly on the body if possible. Treatments can be undertaken lying on the couch or seated as necessary.
After each set of moves I will leave you to rest for 2-3 minutes, this brief rest period allows your body to absorb the Bowen work and convert it into the healing adjustments needed by each individual. Your body takes from Bowen exactly what it needs, I only initiate the process.
Following a treatment improvement is usually noticed within a day or two. You will know within 1-4 sessions whether you are going to respond to Bowen therapy. Usually there is a positive beneficial response during this time, although treatments can continue for longer if needed, also other conditions may improve as a side benefit of Bowen eg. hay fever symptoms often clear or improve.
Mostly the Bowen work holds long term but some people choose to benefit from 'top up' sessions every 2-3 months to maintain optimal body balance. EVERY BODY IS BETTER FOR BOWEN.
This quote from Hippocrates(460-375BC) considered the founder of medicine sums up the Bowen principle: "The body contains the inherent ability to heal itself provided it is given the opportunity to do so".
