I run Hold Me Close Baby Massage classes from two locations around Peterborough & draw clients from all over the Cambridgeshire area including Peterborough, Stanground and Farcet. This gentle art has been used for generations throughout the world and is now re-establishing itself in the west as the many benefits of massage are being rediscovered by modern science. Baby massage classes effectively and enjoyably teach the parent simple, basic, gentle, massage techniques to massage, soothe, and nourish your baby. As the oldest and the most natural of all the healing arts, massage offers a special way of caring for your baby.

All the major systems of the body are stimulated when massaged which affects the blood and lymphatic system, boost in the immune system as well as developing muscle tone, joint mobility, skin texture and digestion. For babies suffering from colic, massage offers the necessary relief helping to release the muscles in spasm and enable the trapped wind to move on – this usually takes one to two weeks.

Babies who suffer from eczema can also be helped as the oils, particularly sunflower oil which is the one we use, can help lubricate the skin. Massage is a great stress reliever which will help babies sleep deeper and longer.

Massage can be very valuable for babies and young children with special needs. It provides a good source of sensory and muscle stimulation, which is beneficial to all babies, but may be particularly good for babies with special needs, such as developmental disabilities and Downs Syndrome.

Massage raises the hormone 'Oxytocin' which helps us cope with stress. Oxytocin is the love hormone that encourages lactation, aids breastfeeding and helps combat the ‘baby blues’

Fathers can have the same bonding and attachment experiences as mothers’ breastfeeding, through massage. A father’s touch can establish security, stability and grounding which is a fundamental factor in a child’s life. Massage can really bring the whole family together even overcoming sibling rivalry as older children massage their new baby.

About Clare Taylor, Instructor
Clare is a mum to Amber, aged 9yrs and Ethan aged 9mths (both regularly massaged!) and teaches the Hold-me-Close massage classes. Her inspiration for the company came when she gave birth to her son. Having completed an infant massage course with her son, she became an advocate of the benefits of massage.

Clare is passionate about working with children and has experience in many guises, ranging from an Au pair to a Teaching Assistant in Primary Schools. She feels strongly about giving the best start in life so made the choice to specialise in working with parents and their babies.

Through the course Clare unites her love of massage with the firm belief that touch is the most powerful way to understand and communicate with babies – therefore a true investment in their future. Clare is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and is fully insured.
