I know that you are reading this because you are right now upset, and at a certain point in your life when you are thinking of seeking professional help. I understand that it can feel pretty overwhelming. You may have reached a point where your problems seem hard or even impossible to set aside. Maybe your anxiety too often stops you from doing important things in your life and you are sick of it.
My Psychotherapy ApproachI use Human Givens Therapy which is an exciting new type of therapy.
The crux of the method is to help you to organise your life in such a way that you are getting your essential human needs met in a balanced way. Then your life will just be working well and you will no longer need to come to see me.
Human Givens Therapy uses the best techniques and knowledge from many different therapies, for instance cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and NLP as well as hypnotherapy. This is a wonderful fresh new approach to helping people by counselling which is much more than just listening. It utilises the knowledge that we now have from neuro science as to how our brains work and it also utilises the power of the imagination to wonderful effect.
My approach is to effectively help you to help yourself to see the problem off; to just show the door to all those symptoms that have been interfering with your life as quickly as possible. That means helping you to turn your life around in as few sessions as possible because I get that you want to start feeling better now. You need to get back to the person you really are and were before that problem started
How do I do this? Well, some of my approaches are going to leap right out at you as very different.
Firstly, I’m interested in really finding out where you are right now in terms of exactly how much of your life is working for you or not, before we even start. This is essential because it gives us clarity as to where we are to begin with. In order for you to make a change you have to accept where you really are when you begin to seek changes and then you can pay attention to those changes and really notice your progress. |It is all too easy to forget how bad you used to feel, once your problem has shifted and really diminished.
We Human Givens practitioners really believe in measuring every small improvement. We’re passionate about therapy or counselling being about you and your results in you life. Celebrating your improvements is vitally important.
It goes without saying that with this whole enabling approach, we are opposed to the idea of encouraging dependency on the counsellor. That really is a key part of our whole ethos.
Secondly, I’ll help you to learn to relax. If you believe that you just can’t relax very easily, I will show you how to do that very clearly and once you develop this massively important skill, I promise you that this one thing alone will make the hugest difference to your life.
It is important that you understand the importance and value of acquiring this skill and that is why I am going to not only take a lot of time to show you the how of Relaxation but just as importantly, I’m going to help you to see the why as well.
Thirdly, I will have a few ideas of my own as to what is at the root of your problem. There is one big organising idea that is at the heart of Human Givens Therapy which is that as a Human Being, we all have certain fundamental needs which are required to be in harmony in life. These are your needs for connection with other people and to be significant to other people in your life and to be challenged and stretched and to have enough control over your life. We need to see where you may be able to get your needs met better and then I will work with you to help you see how to create that.
Fourthly, whatever part of your life or yourself you want to change, I will help you to feel confident and truly believe that change is possible, at the deepest level of your being. In fact, you won’t just believe that you can change into the confident, anxiety free person that you want to become, you will already have experienced yourself being like that. That is because in the theatre of your mind, you will actually rehearse your own success, however you may define that success.
My Psychotherapy Background I have over 10 years experience as a family counsellor. Firstly, working with children at Childline and then at Relate, where I have been qualified to be working with couples since 2007 . I then trained separately to be able to work with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety and trauma using Human Givens Therapy
