Areas of SpecialityPeople use my individual, couples and family counselling services for a variety of reasons but I specialise in working with clients in areas such as:
- Relationship difficulties – Whether there are problems with family, your partner, or even colleagues in the workplace, my counselling service can help you identify and manage troublesome differences.
- Couple counselling – If communication between you and your partner has broken down, I can provide a safe environment for you to talk and provide guidance on developing effective communication skills.
- Bereavement – During times of bereavement it can become hard to cope with the intense feelings of loss. I can provide a non-judgemental and supportive environment for you to express and explore feelings that you may find difficult to do when among family or friends.
- Depression – Is low mood interfering with your life? I can help you make sense of those negative feelings, moods and thoughts and address the underlying causes.
- Low confidence – If you aspire to be more self-confident, my services can help challenge your current negative thoughts and behaviour so you can develop and build your self-confidence.
- Trauma – If a traumatic event in your life is causing you physical and emotional problems, I can help support you in overcoming these intense feelings so you can step forward and claim your life back.
- Parenting – The challenge of being a parent can be daunting. I provide a range of courses to help you gain a better understanding of child behaviour which can help increase your confidence and self-esteem as a parent
These are just some the issues my services can help with. Please get in touch if there is something not listed here that you are having difficulties overcoming as I may be able to help.
What to expectMy individual and couple counselling sessions take place in my private consulting room in Rugeley. During your initial session we will assess the issues that have brought you to therapy and you will have the opportunity to decide if counselling is the best way forward. We will then arrange times for future sessions which can be arranged or adapted to your work and family commitments.
For family counselling, I use Alderian therapy which provides each member of the family with the opportunity to be heard. Part of the counselling process also involves adults and children working together using art and creative activities. Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes on a weekly basis at my private consulting room in Rugeley although home visits may be possible.
My parenting skills groups are for anyone who is a parent, step-parent, parenting partner or playing the role of parent to a child. Courses are based on the world-wide known STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) system and Family Caring Trust programme.
The aim of the sessions is to introduce new skills and different approaches to parenting. Courses are spread between 6-12 weekly sessions lasting around 2-3 hours. Courses are also available on-line. Please see my website for further details.
