Areas of specialityI specialise in treating a wide range of issues, you can see a comprehensive list at the bottom of this page as there are so many to mention. Most of the time I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), however if you are simply looking for a space to talk and have someone listen, I am more than happy to oblige.
My experience has given me the opportunity to work with adults, students, children and older adults all from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures
How can CBT & counselling help?Do you frequently experience
severe anxiety at what feels like the slightest thing?
Are you feeling
really low, lethargic and
unmotivated?
Has your
confidence taken a battering due to a situation at work or at home?
Are you experiencing
obsessive thoughts or a
compulsion to clean and keep things excessively tidy?
Is there an
issue from your past that still haunts you and affects your ability to have fulfilling relationships?
If you can identify with any of these issues, then therapy may be able to help. What is CBT?When we experience an emotional feeling such as depression or anxiety, it is nearly always caused by our thinking processes going a bit wrong. This means that how we end up thinking about or interpreting a situation can cause excessive feelings of anxiety, make us worry more, or cause us to doubt our abilities and hence create overwhelming insecurities and perhaps even mild paranoia about people and situations.
CBT aims to help you to identify the unhelpful negative thoughts and then teaches you how to challenge them and provide alternative more balanced and helpful thoughts. It is also a valuable tool to help you to come up with alternative ways of dealing with situations when we are stuck in a rut. It has a long lasting effect because it provides you with strategies and tools that you continue to use beyond therapy and hence you continue to help yourself.
(Please note: This is a very brief description of how problems develop and what CBT is...a more detailed explanation will be provided when we meet)
CBT & counselling - What to expectThe first session commonly involves getting details about your background and current issues and then establishing what your goals for therapy are.
From then on, it is a case of us working together session at a time to reach your overall goals and eventually reach the end of therapy.
How long does therapy last?Everyone’s issues are different, so it is very difficult to say exactly how many sessions you might need. As a general guideline, 8-10 seems to be the average.
