ABOUT THE BOWEN TECHNIQUEOriginally from Australia, the Bowen Technique is a gentle alternative to Physiotherapy. It involves gentle moves over specific muscles and tendons that transmit information to your brain which identifies these impulses and sends back messages that re-orient your body to its original 'blueprint', in other words your body’s previous healthy state.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY SESSIONA typical session involves the client lying on a therapy table wearing light clothing while the practitioner applies simple moves across specific muscles, tendons and ligaments. It has been scientifically proven that a shift starts to take place in the body 90 seconds after a Bowen move has been done. With that in mind there are frequent but very essential pauses throughout the session that will allow the healing process to begin.
Results can be remarkable, even from the first session; usually only a few sessions are needed to solve the problem.
WHO CAN BE TREATEDAnybody can be treated from all age groups including newborn babies.
Bowen is particularly beneficial if you are pregnant and suffer with lower back pain as it will help shift your centre of gravity by putting your body back into alignment.
BOWEN AND THE THREE "W"sAfter your session your body will benefit from the following to assist
recovery:
Water: drink a little bit more water than usual. By keeping your body hydrated you'll ensure that it eliminates anything that it doesn't need.
Walk: if you're not an active person, make sure you take a few short walks in the days following your treatment. By moving your body, you're helping the lymphatic system to work more efficiently.
Week: you should let your body rest for a week before the next session. The Bowen will still be "working" on your body in the days following the treatment so you may notice changes and improvements with each passing day.
