About meI am a qualified Psychotherapist with a wide experience of helping people to resolve difficulties. I am also a published author of research with a Diploma in Counselling and a Master of Science Degree in Counselling Research awarded by the University of Bristol.
With experience gained over many years I feel I have developed an insight and ability to identify, evaluate and address the core issues facing my clients and help them make positive changes in their outlook. I have an open and natural style of working. One client said, “ "Always a relaxing environment, I felt comfortable, secure and safe. It has helped me understand myself more. My confidence has really improved and I feel better about myself. I like the idea of "life" sessions! I enjoyed the sessions despite being upset on several occasions. I found that focusing on myself, my feelings was healing and helpful. Putting thought into words and voicing them to someone not emotionally involved and who didn't judge was great. Your quiet, positive reassurance and down to earth attitude to life and its ups and downs was fab, thank you!"

I am able to offer supervision to counsellors in Somerset. Please contact me for further information on this service.
Package & PricesThe counselling practice is based in Taunton TA1 but we can easily see clients from Wellington, Bridgwater, Tiverton, Street and Glastonbury.
The counselling practice started in 1992 and we have been growing ever since. There is now a team of qualified and experienced counsellors available to work with you.
The way we work varies but if you visit our website you can read about each counsellor, their experience and how they work to help you think who you may connect with best.
We all charge £30 for the first initial session and £40 there after this is a less than average price within Somerset. We can work short term if appropriate or there is space for longer term work. We ask that you consider weekly sessions when starting counselling and normally suggest 10 sessions where possible however you are free to leave when ever you wish. This would be clearer after the initial session.
You will be seen in a safe, comfortable and confidential environment.
Opening HoursSome therapists are able to offer evening appointments so please ring for further information about this.
More Client CommentsAll clients are asked to complete an evaluation when they have completed their counselling. Below are the most recent comments made. These are printed anonymously from the counselling evaluation form. All clients have given their consent for the following information to be shared.
"I can't see how the sessions could have been improved, they were perfect, I could not have asked for any more. The most useful thing was being able to talk to someone who could help me understand things that had affected my life and were affecting me now. The main change was a greater understanding and confidence of 'me', happy to be in my own skin, to face my fears."
"The most useful thing was to talk over my problems with someone and get the help and advice that I needed. I find that I now have confidence in myself, something that I really never had!"

"When I came to you, I was at an all time low, it was so hard for me because I thought that counselling was good for other people, I had recommended it numerous times, but never thought I would need it. I was wrong. I now believe this was one of the bravest things and best decisions I have ever made.
To be brave to the outside world is one thing, to be brave inside yourself is something all together different."
"I don't know if more sessions would have been useful, I am less angry, talking more and can see the problem before it can get worse. Changes have been communication with the wife and with other family members. I would recommend counselling to others. My reaction overall to counselling sessions is very good; counselling has been very useful; I am very satisfied that I have got what I wanted from counselling."
"The most useful thing has been getting the problem into a better perspective. The least useful was my decision not to tell my husband what I was doing. I now feel more confident about holding my ground."
"I feel I know myself better. I have a much clearer idea of my own thoughts, feelings, attitudes & values and a greater acceptance of their validity. I have more self confidence and stronger sense of the way ahead. Your skill as a counsellor has been a great inspiration to me on so many levels, I'm really grateful for all your hard work. The sessions were spot on for me. The most useful thing has been having space to talk about my issues with someone trustworthy and able to cope and support me through the challenging bits."
"I am much happier and I've got more direction. If I could have made the time I feel weekly sessions would have been better - more consistency. The most useful thing has been learning to look after myself and doing nothing!"
"The most useful thing was learning why I behave in the ways I do and what has changed is that I am less angry and more able to control that anger at times when I get angry whereas before I could not."
"My confidence has improved greatly and I am learning to control my temper."
"I have been able to regain control of my emotions and my life."
"I feel more relaxed and less stressful as a whole."
"Changing my outlook on life in general has been the most useful thing and the biggest change is in gaining confidence."

"I came more for personal/spiritual understanding of self rather than initial problems. The sessions worked for me but a suggested improvement might be tea & biscuits! The most useful thing for me was understanding where anger and other emotions actually come from and how to manage and accept them and myself. My view of the world and of myself and others has changed as well as my expectations concerning the future. I have learned to say things to people's faces honestly and without embarrassment so I guess that counselling does work!"
"Before I was ill I was very skeptical about counselling as something that could help me. How wrong I was! It has helped me through a very low period in my life and also helped to address areas of my life that needed to be worked through. I don't think the sessions could have been better. Right from the start the atmosphere and areas covered were perfect. Without it I doubt very much whether I would have recovered as quickly or as much as I have."
"The realisation that I am not responsible for how other people feel and I am not responsible for the way they act towards me when they are angry, upset or abusive. They choose to act that way. I can choose to respond in a different way. Facing up to me was the most difficult bit! In terms of changes: understanding myself, starting to be truthful about how I feel about other people instead of hiding my feelings just to get along. I experienced being relaxed and supported (both in and out of sessions. I never felt pushed but experienced honesty."
"I felt so inadequate and low about myself I could not bare to look at myself in the mirror. I was constantly fighting back tears (which is out of character), I did not put make up on for weeks when I had not had a day without it since I was about 12 years old. I felt inadequate as a mother, a partner, and as a sister, all of which are very important to me.”
“In just a few sessions you allowed me to laugh and cry. Most of all you listened and made some really fundamental links I had never made about myself before. I have done this for others many times, but no one had ever done this for me. In particular I found the work on boundaries and expectations really powerful. It has given me a new outlook about self management, both personally and professionally.”
“I never felt judged by you, and each time I opened up, and told you things I had never dared to voice to anyone before, I was helped to rebuild myself a little more. I started to become the person I want to be, rather than to be living in the shadow of my childhood, and the mistakes of my parents.”
“You have equipped me with tools I will use for the rest of my life, and I hope to pass onto others. I know I sound like a new age hippy but I feel as though the few sessions I had with you set me free. For the first time in my life I am not looking for acceptance from others.”
“The best I think I can say to anyone else considering it is, try it for yourself. I went to New Leaf with work related stress and was opened up to things I had hidden from for years. After the initial shock I never felt as though I was in therapy. I was never pushed for it to be anything other than what I wanted it to be, and I never knew what I wanted. It felt right, and it really did worked for me. I feel so fortunate to have found the courage to go.”
