What to Expect
I work with a wide range of people from all walks of life who come to see me because they are struggling with issues or problems which they have not been able to solve themselves. Sometimes this will be a crisis or trauma that has happened recently, but often people come to realise that there is something amiss in their lives, that they are repeating patterns or are stuck in some way and are just not sure what to do about it or how they can change the situations they find themselves in.  Does this sound like you? Are you looking for answers that you have just not been able to find for yourself yet..?

Although entering therapy can be pretty daunting, the majority of my clients report a sense of relief from the very first session.

In the first session you get the chance to meet me and for us to talk about what you are looking for from therapy, and whether I am the best person for you to work with.  I can always give referrals on to other professionals if that is appropriate and there is no obligation to start therapy at this point.  Once we have decided to work together we agree a time for (usually) weekly sessions, and we start to explore your experiences of life, your history and relationships in the context of the issues that you are bringing.  The therapeutic relationship works to deepen your self-awareness, mirroring and reflecting your relationships with yourself and others, enabling patterns of behaviour to emerge, and be explored in a nurturing space that can support the ongoing process of healing and change.

Give me a call to arrange an assessment session where we can meet, discuss your needs and establish whether us working together is right for you, for your life!

About therapy
A therapy or counselling session provides a safe and confidential setting in which to explore your concerns; these may relate to an emotional crisis arising from sudden change of circumstances, such as a traumatic event, bereavement or relationship crisis or a loss of job. There may be specific presenting problems such as self harm, addiction, depression, physical illnesses, panic or anxiety attacks, or physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.

Often the issues and problems will be less specific and may include a general feeling of anxiety, melancholy, low self esteem and loss of or lack of confidence.  Feelings of depression are common, or a sense of boredom and dissatisfaction or disappointment with how life has turned out.  Sometimes anger or stress or loneliness, regret, and futility or feeling stuck, without a real purpose in life, comes to the fore, although often clients report that they gradually realise that many of these feelings have been with them a long time.

My psychotherapeutic model is Integrative; this means that I work from a combined theoretical base and move flexibly among a range of approaches from the therapeutic traditions. I work with a variety of techniques, depending on what you enjoy and find most useful; generally we would start off with you telling me about your life, looking at how it is for you living in the world. We would usually explore your family history if that is pertinent. It can also be useful to work with other methods for accessing your conscious and unconscious experiences; these can include working with art materials, using natural earth objects, visualisation, modelling, two-chair exercises, as well as cognitive behavioural exercises.

About Me
I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist.  I am registered and accredited by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) the foremost psychotherapeutic organisation in the UK.

I have worked for over 10 years facilitating support groups, providing counselling and working with crisis intervention services; working privately as a psychotherapist since 2007.

My intention as a psychotherapist is to provide a safe, confidential and supportive atmosphere for you in which an ongoing and continuously evolving therapeutic relationship can unfold. I work together with you to explore and understand your world, attending to the whole person; your perceptions, thoughts, feelings and physical experience. Particularly in longer-term psychotherapy, the nature and quality of the relationship that you and I co-create plays a very important part in the healing process. It serves as a mirror, reflecting the hopes and fears at work in current and past relationships.

Testimonials
I thought therapy would all be about misery and my depression, but now I am coping a lot better and I have been able to find space for happiness to come into my life!

Our marriage was really struggling, and we had really reached crisis point.  Through our sessions with Becky we have been able to learn to communicate properly again, working on underlying issues as a team – its hard but we can finally see a future for us together again!

I worked with Becky through issues with my self esteem and resultant habit problems and have been able to really increase the quality of my life, my relationships and work.
