Guided imagery may help abdominal pain

digestion problems Guided imagery may help abdominal painScientists working in the US have discovered a strong link between ‘guided imagery’ and pain by examining how young children react.

The findings of the new study found that children may be able to use their imaginations to ease abdominal pain. The results support previous studies which have pointed toward the benefits of hypnosis for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Children were given a CD and asked to imagine themselves in various relaxing scenarios. Three out of four participants reported a reduction in abdominal pain by half way at the end of the session with two-thirds reporting continued improvement six months after the first treatment.

Guided imagery is an effective method used in hypnotherapy for a number of problems and lead researcher Dr Miranda van Tilburg noted the use of the brain to deal with pain is ‘very inexpensive’.

    Hello:
I started a project ten years ago to help improve the psyche of patients who are hospitalized. Every day, I solicit help to move the project forward clinically, but cannot find anyone to help me. I am confused about the reasons for this resistance, because I know that these five new ideas are needed.
I am hoping that you will be kind enough to help me with this project. You have the contacts needed to see it move forward to clinical trials etc. It does have unique ideas that would be newsworthy for a column or story idea.
I also wanted to let you know that my KID’S CLUB unit is available for gratis donation. I cannot even give this valuable ( $1300) unit away. The project script and photos are in my Blog at : http://duanewyatt.wordpress.com. I hope that you will want to help this project, thanks very much. Duane Wyatt
