accupuncture Acupuncture is safe for childrenA large-scale review of over 60 studies has revealed that acupuncture is safe for children. Leading experts consider acupuncture treatment to be “low risk” with adverse affects appearing in only 1.55 per 100 cases.

The review was carried out by three leading centres – Division of Intramural Research, National Centre for Complementary Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. The study covered published articles, controlled clinical trials, meta-analysis and systematic reviews.

Another separate study found the risk of a serious adverse event from receiving acupuncture therapy is the same as taking penicillin.

The National Institutes of Health Consensus states that: “One of the advantages of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted procedures for the same conditions.”
