What is an Ayurvedic Medicine Consultation?

Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurvedic Medicine is the oldest Traditional system of holistic (and Whole-istic) medicine originated in India around 3000BC.

Ayurveda gives advice in all forms of life; health, unhealth, happiness and sorrow and thus believes in prevention and preservation of health.

What are the credentials of an Ayurvedic Practitioner?

An Ayurvedic Consultant or Practitioner studies for 5yrs (in India) and internship for 6months to become a Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). They are called ‘Vaidyas’ in India. In UK there are either Ayurvedic Practitioners or Ayurvedic Therapists.

The Practitioners are qualified to assess, diagnose and prescribe Ayurvedic medicine and the Therapists are trained to carry out all the hands on therapies. Both are fully insured and patients have a legal right to check if their insurance is up-to-date. Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (APA) is a unifying professional association, guided by the principles of inclusion, transparency and accountability.

The APA is committed to supporting all Ayurvedic professionals in the UK in an enabling manner. APA has a list of Practitioners and Therapists on its website where patients can select the ones available in their nearest area.
