The causes of high blood pressure, known as hypertension, are unclear and the condition presents no symptoms. However, if left untreated it can lead to kidney, heart or brain damage.

Factors that lead to hypertension include age, family history, obesity, lack of physical activity, diets high in fat and salt, excessive alcohol consumption and stress.
