Depression – Why?

Why do I feel depressed?

There are a number of factors that cause depression. Many people suffer depression due to a traumatic event or series of events. A family history of depression increases the likelihood that you’ll develop depression. High levels of stress also contribute to depression when the body’s inbuilt coping mechanism is inadequate.

One of the difficulties of depression is the way the condition can disguise itself. Depression can be hidden within fatigue, lack of sleep, poor concentration, weight problems, muscle aches, headaches or a general inability to enjoy life. And the condition can manifest itself in a number of ways:

– Anxiety
– Mood swings
– Anger or rage
– Chronic fatigue
– Pain
– Panic attacks
– Illness

Depression has long been associated with addiction but the condition now has links to physical problems such as osteoporosis, cancers, diabetes and sight problems. The condition certainly isn’t confined to the mental health of a person but their physical health too.
