Obesity in adults and childhood obesity has become a major health problem in the UK. Nearly half the country’s male population and a third of the female population are overweight. Added to that, 17% of men and 21% of women are classed as obese and 27% of children are above their recommended weight. The health implications of obesity and obesity related disease is costing the National Health Service more than £1 billion a year. And the obesity problem is getting worse. The UK is set to overtake the US in its proportion of obese children.
