Easing Muscle Tension With Sports Massage
Muscle tension relief with sports massage and remedial massage
A brief case study to see whether a Sports & Remedial Massage can ease the pain from cycling and the grind of daily office life for IT specialist Sam Samara?
What does a Sports Massage & Remedial Massage claim to do?
Athletes undergo sports massage to release muscular tension and prevent injury and though not a sportsperson, everyday cycling together with sitting using computer screens leaves me with a stiff neck, back, arm and leg muscles. By the end of the week I feel sore and prone to cramping.
Having had enough pain, I sought out a sports & remedial massage specialist in St.Albans. The clinic I visited use deep tissue massage in order to loosen tight and stressed bodies in order to avoid serious muscle, joint, Skeletal or circulatory problems.
Helping muscle tension and muscle cramp with sports massage and remedial massage
Is there any science to a sports massage?
Specialised massage is all precision science. Fortunately, my massage therapist (Karen) was equipped with detailed knowledge of the body’s skeletal and muscular system, so can point out the parts of my system most under strain. In my most recent treatment, Karen set to work, explaining why specific muscles were tight. Once massaged, targeted muscles relax, allowing for increased blood flow and greater tissue elasticity.

What is a sports massage and remedial massage like?
A sports massage is most definitely not an indulgent ’spa treat - this was a physical drubbing. My neck and shoulder muscles were particularly tight - so I laid on the massage couch while Karen applied pressure to the bottom of my skull and then moved down to work though precise areas on my back.
Karen chats away to distract you from what she calls “a grateful pain”. I left the treatment with greater neck flexibility, warm back muscles and under instructions to drink plenty of water, as deep-tissue pummelling increases toxins in the muscles, which need to be flushed out.
The next day, my muscles ached slightly and my back was sensitive to touch but my ride to work was noticeably easier and all cramp spasms had vanished. Grateful indeed!
