Kinesiology The Muscle Testing Therapy
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a therapy that was developed by a chiropractor in the 1960s, and it draws together techniques from many other disciplines. There are many different branches of kinesiology, but the fundamental principle common to them all is the system of ‘muscle testing’ in order to find information from the body. During a kinesiology session the therapist will apply light pressure to a muscle (or muscles) and monitor the response, which will either be a firm, locked muscle, or a spongy, unlocked muscle.
Slight changes in the body’s subtle energy system will cause the muscle being tested to respond differently to different stimuli. The most well known use of kinesiology is for allergy testing; in this case, a suspected allergen is placed on a specific acupressure point on the body, and the response of the ‘indicator’ muscle can show whether there is allergy or not. But the scope of muscle testing is much, much wider than this.
Following assessment using muscle testing, the therapist works out a set of kinesiology ‘corrections’ to restore any imbalances that have been found. These corrections generally involve touching acupressure points, perhaps whilst thinking a certain thought, holding the hands in a certain position, or having homoeopathic essences placed on the body.
The treatment is simple, yet kinesiology is one of the alternative therapies that can give truly profound results. The treatment is uniquely targeted and tailored to the individual, and this makes it very efficient. And because kinesiology encompasses aspects from other therapies, it is genuinely holistic – treating the body as a whole.
Kinesiology Case Study
Alison, a 35 year old female presented with severe PMS and headaches. During the first session, the testing revealed that she would benefit from a multimineral supplement and also some extra B vitamins. Corrections were done to improve energy flow through her meridians, and also to help the flow of nutrients through her cell membranes. In subsequent sessions, kinesiology corrections were carried out to rebalance her endocrine system, correct abnormal electric currents arising from metal fillings in her mouth and also to remove the stress around particular thoughts or psychological aspects.
After the third session, she reported that her symptoms had dramatically improved, and that the spiral of negative thinking and headaches that usually took hold before her period had not appeared at all.
During the fourth and final session, to complete the work corrections were done on restoring irregular electromagnetic fields in her body, as well as on energy blockages in her tissues.
How does Kinesiology work?
The truth is, it is not understood exactly how it works scientifically, but it definitely does work. There are no scientific studies to demonstrate the efficacy of kinesiology, but the hundreds of kinesiology practitioners in the UK all have a raft of amazing success stories, of how they’ve helped their clients improve their lives.
Melanie Flower, Kinesiologist and Nutritional Therapist says: ‘Kinesiology is a very unusual therapy, and I always tell my clients this. Most people find the sessions fascinating and relaxing, and find it hard to believe that such simple procedures can produce such profound results. I find it hard to believe myself sometimes!’.
What can Kinesiology treat?
Kinesiology can be used to treat almost any issue, physical or emotional. Common problems treated by kinesiologists include IBS, fatigue, menstrual problems and allergies. But it also has other specialised uses, such as improving the ability to play sport or a musical instrument, resolution of phobias, vertigo and improving self-confidence.

I have heard of kinesiology before but have never really looked into the ailments it can help with. I have had a number of allergy problems in the past and will definatley consider an appointment with a kniesiologist to help with my issues.
